Bexhill Down (A) Townswomen's Guild
At our social studies meeting in September, speaker Paul Lendon, Rother councillor, talked about his role as a member of the Steering Committee of the Regeneration of Bexhill Town Centre.
Our hall was full to capacity as members from other local Townswomen’s Guilds were invited, all of whom were very concerned about future plans for the town centre. Cllr Lendon assured us that he will keep us informed of any news of future developments.

Hide AdOur last ramble for the year was on October 19; a walk in the Eastbourne Meads area. More interesting walks are planned for next spring and summer, when our ramble group starts again.
Our guest speaker, Edward Thomas, gave a very interesting talk on the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne. Mr Thomas has written two books on the theatre and certainly knew his subject well. The Devonshire Park Theatre is a Grade II listed building, built in 1884, designed by Henry Currey, and further improved by theatre architect Frank Matcham in 1903
It is one of the best examples of a small Victorian theatre in the country and has seen performances by many famous actors and actresses over the years, including Bela Lugosi and Sarah Bernhardt, among others.
We welcome new members and visitors to our Guild.
Our next meeting will be held at 2pm on Wednesday November 10, at St Augustine’s Church Hall, Cooden Drive.
