DVD review: The Gift (7 out of 10)
Joel Edgerton is well known as an actor, having appeared in dozens of films, but he reveals some great skills as a director and writer with this project.
He also co-stars in The Gift, a tense psychological thriller that really delivers.

Hide AdJason Bateman and Rebecca Hall play Simon and Robyn, a young married couple who move into a new town.
Out shopping one day, Simon bumps into an old school acquaintance. Gordo, played by Edgerton.
Gordo seems a nice enough guy and leaves a gift on the front porch for the couple.
However, Robyn becomes concerned when Gordo’s attentions become a bit too intense and more gifts are left.

To his credit, Edgerton doesn’t go down any tried and trusted routes with the plot and the audience is guided through disturbing revelations as we discover the truth.
Bateman and Hall and, indeed Edgerton, are excellent in this movie, with a solid supporting cast.
Edgerton also serves up some great direction, mixing jump-shocks with lingering tension.

However, my advice is stick with it, it’s well worth the journey.
