Campaign to protect NHS in Chichester city centre

City Councillor Sarah Sharp was one of 12 people supporting the action by NHS group Coastal West Sussex 38 degrees, which provided leaflets explaining plans to re-organise NHS funding and allocation.
As part of the 68th birthday ‘celebration’ for the NHS, volunteers handed out approximately 500 leaflets explaining the draft ‘Sustainability and Transformation Plan’ (STP), which the group fears will result in cuts to services.

Hide AdThe plans subdivide the country into 44 ‘footprints’ that will have to clear all debts in their area before being granted extra funding. The constraints are intended to make up the £22bn in national savings previously outlined in the government budget.
Jan Birtwell, an organiser of Coastal West Sussex 38 Degrees NHS Group, said: “I was very pleased to see the public support we got on Saturday. Not surprisingly most people we spoke to had no idea about STP or the dangers our NHS faces. Our NHS is being reorganised out of existence without the knowledge or permission of the public it serves.
“I want to see it not only reach its 70th birthday but still here for my grandchildren when they grow up.”
