These plaques are permanent signs, visible to the public, that commemorate a famous person or people associated with the building in some way. They can also be placed in memory of an event that occurred there.
1. William Penn, Blue Idol Friends' Meeting House, Coolham
William Penn is Horsham’s former resident who had a major impact on religion in England, and founded an American state. The Blue Idol has a William Penn Memorial Garden, with information about his life. He died in 1817. Photo: Getty Images
2. The West Sussex Gazette, High Street, Arundel
This West Sussex County Council blue plaque shows that the West Sussex Gazette was pubished 1853 - 1996 at a building on the south west side of the High Street in Arundel.
3. WPC Gladys Moss, Police Station, Chatsworth Road, Worthing
Worthing Mayor Michael Donin and Derek Moss with the blue plaque in memory of WPC Gladys Moss, the first policewoman in West Sussex Constabulary, serving 1919 and 194, and to mark 100 years of women in.policing.
4. Lady Elizabeth Maud Parry, Rustington, West Sussex
This former president of the Littlehampton National Union of Women's Suffrage Society lived from 1851 to 1933. The plaque is placed at her former home.
