Every week from May 7 until September 16 water samples were taken and checked for bacteria. On only one occasion in May did the level fall as low as a Good rating.

Hide AdSeaford Town Council clerk Len Fisher said the results bode well for the town's 2003 bid for the Tidy Britain clean beach and water flag.
He said: 'We are delighted with the results which send a clear message to residents and visitors that seawater at Seaford is safe and clean to bathe in.'
