Fearless Daniel to scaleLondon’s O2 for charity
Daniel, from Rye, who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of five, will be taking on the challenge on May 29.
He will be joined on the 156ft ascent by mum Kate, who is scared of heights, dad Neil and sister Lucy. Daniel will have to be lifted. Their efforts will raise vital funds for Demelza House children’s hospice.

Hide AdKate explained why Daniel wanted to take part in the challenge: “I think it is because it is something that a person in a wheelchair can do. It’s a nice family thing to do. I think he’s quite excited.”
The family, from Rye, are just starting to access respite care from Demelza:. Kate said: “We knew about Demelza and we knew they were there but we didn’t really need anybody but Daniel’s becoming more immobile and the grandparents are getting a bit older so it’s nice to have a bit more support.”
The family have been offered four hours a month respite care through Demelza’s hospice at home care team and have also been to look around the charity’s hospice in Sittingbourne where they will be able to come for breaks.
The 02 climb is not the only fundraising Kate and the family are doing. Neil is taking part in the London to Brighton bike ride in September and Kate is climbing Ben Nevis next year.
