Christ Church Blacklands’ pole flew St George’s flag on Easter Sunday but was in two the following day. Some of the church bell ringers went up on the tower parapet and secured the broken pole due to fears it could fall from the tower. Priest Charlie Hill said: “We are very grateful to tower captain Stephen Harvey and the bell ringers who worked with him to resolve a dangerous situation.” However the cross outside the Laton Road church survived the storm. It was erected at the beginning of Lent by church member Paul Cabban and was decorated with flowers by Slimming World members who meet in the church hall.
