TOMORROW IN IDEN VILLAGE HALL!: Tomorrow, from 2pm-5pm, in Iden village hall, we can buy a cream tea for £3.50, and a slice of cake to eat there or take home. How about we all turn up, I’m sure there will be gallons of tea, and lively conversation. Proceeds go to the village hall, so it’s a very good cause.
THE TED WHITE CUP AND PLATE COMPETITION: There was a whole day of bowls at Iden Bowls Club last Saturday. Members entered the Ted White Cup and plate competition. As usual a nice lunch was provided [isn’t it funny, how without reams of lists and particular thought, people seem to produce a spread, well-balanced between sweet and savoury, and pretty much something for everyone ?] It was slightly chilly [our weather is a bit of a yo-yo business isn’t it?, hot one minute, cold the next], but the rain held off, and it was a jolly afternoon. The cup was won by Vicky Britton [well done Vicky,] Runner up was Pauline Harmer [well done Pauline]. Stephanie Stewart won The Plate [well done Steph] Runner up was Jill Kirkby [well done Jill] The club has lovely new windows, which go beautifully with Lynne Hanson’s lovely curtains. [Very posh indeed!]

A SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION: There will be a Service of Holy Communion this Sunday, in Iden Parish Church, at 9.30pm.
A SAD FAREWELL: There was a small reception last Sunday in the Old Hall, for John Smith, an Iden resident for many years. While we are sad to see John leave Iden, we are very glad that he is to live in Somerset, to be near Glynnis, who has looked after John recently since his knee op, and is a sweet lady. John has said that he will where possible visit us at the Pop-In, so it is not quite goodbye.
THE POP-IN: The next Pop-In will be on Monday 27th June, at 11am , in Iden village hall. Do come along, for a good natter, and tea/coffee and biscuits, plus books and bric-a-brac on sale. All are welcome.

SYNCHRONISED AGING: This week, I bought two second hand Clint Eastwood Dvd’s. I love the way he rides into town with his poncho and a half-chewed cigar, and saves the town, having said only a handful of words. He seems to live on neat whiskey, and always gets shot at taking a bath in a tin bath, still chewing on his cigar. Usually at the end he manages to wipe out all the bad guys, except for one man still alive on the roof, about to shoot him through a hay bale. There is always a saloon girl, looking ravishingly beautiful [where do they buy their make up or perfume, without a ‘Boots’, or a ‘Debenham’s’ in sight?] Maybe old Clint has some stashed away in his saddle bag, left over from ‘A Fistful of Dollars’. Imagine if he came riding into Iden!. We could put him up. [I’m sure I could lay my hands on a tin bath and a bottle of whiskey!] I think we may even have a copy of ‘ Rock Of Ages Cleft For Me’, and a can of beans to make him feel at home .It seems only yesterday that he was playing Rowdy Yates in ‘Rawhide’. How the years fly when we age along with film stars!
