The Queen’s diamond jubilee and the 2012 London Olympics are certain to feature strongly among the 25 parade entries, including floats and walking and dancing groups, on Saturday, July 14. However, just as importantly, the carnival needs more volunteers to act as marshals and collectors. So far, 15 marshals have been recruited, but as many again are needed to make sure the procession runs smoothly. The carnival committee is once again organising a programme of events in the town centre on carnival day and is still accepting bookings for stalls in the pedestrian precinct. To book a stall or volunteer as a collector or marshal, call carnival president Freda Hughes on 01903 716634 Next week’s Gazette will carry a full preview of the carnival, with details of timings, including the daytime attractions.
