LETTER: Camper van clarification

As a result of the growing number of camper vans that have been parking overnight in Seaside Road and Grosvenor Gardens, quite a number of local residents have contacted councillors and complained to East Sussex County Council, who are responsible for on-street parking.
This resulted in ESCC publicly consulting as part of their annual Hastings Parking Review on whether there should be any restrictions on camper vans in these roads.

Hide AdFollowing further submissions by residents with various viewpoints and by myself and my fellow county councillor for West St Leonards and Maze Hill Kim Forward, it was agreed by ESCC’s Planning Committee that ‘no overnight camper vans between 10pm - 7am’ would be introduced, with a review to see how it is working and whether future changes need to be considered, including for neighbouring streets if there is a ‘knock-on effect’.
The restriction signs are now up on the lamp posts and once all the works for the Annual Hastings Parking Review are completed across the borough by ESCC’s contractors and the final legal paperwork is completed, probably sometime mid to late November, ESCC’s parking wardens will take enforcement action if the appropriate vehicles are found ignoring the new rule.
I hope that this clarifies the situation.
