There is no possibility of vulnerable people being pressurised into ending their own lives.
Although unprecedented power and medical skill are available to us to prolong life, it is right that these powers and skills are not used to make life shorter.

Hide AdYet the way that even religious leaders have been divided over the subject indicates that this is a profoundly sensitive and difficult issue.
Had the bill been passed, it could have been the means of answering the prayer of the author of Psalm 39, who just wants God to look away so that [s]he can smile again before [s]he dies. Hard questions remain: those last six months…if they can’t be cut short, can they somehow be made less unbearable? And is there any meaning or purpose in them? Is it right even to ask?
