The Secretary of State for the Environment should be reminded that she and her Government’s vacillation concerning fracking in / under the SDNP indicates the dubious lengths this Government has adopted to approve gas fracking below the SDNP.
Water levels in the South East rivers and aquifers are shrinking due to increased extraction for the needs of the population increase in the South East and longer periods of dry weather conditions. Chalk river streams in the South East have already dried up.

Hide AdIt will be an environmental disaster to permit fracking for gas anywhere, particularly in the vicinity of chalk aquifer and river zones. Gas extraction rigs require vast amounts of water and nasty chemicals for gas explorations.
If gas fracking operations in the South East of England are approved, Government Ministers and MPs should be held responsible and legally culpable for the rape of the environment and its precious life supporting water supplies.
