Platforms for local producers
We already see technology replacing staff with self-scanning checkouts and hand-held scanners, and self check-ins at airports, so when promises of new employment comes with new supermarkets should we be asking about longevity of the promised employment for an area? Should we also be asking about how much one large international corporation should be allowed to take out of one local community?
Shouldn’t new stores be about providing a platform for local farmers and producers to sell goods to local people and not international foods being sold to locals and those profits then going to corporate giants?
