Hailsham resident celebrates her 100th birthday and says her secret is no men or alcohol

Shirley Holmes is a resident at Care UK’s Bowes House on Battle Road. She turned 100 on January 5 and celebrated with balloons, banners, and a special birthday cake.
Shirley grew up in Nottingham, went to a convent school and then worked as a secretary. In her private life, Shirley loved theatre trips, gardening, and listening to music.

Hide AdWhen asked about her secret to a long and happy life, Shirley said: “No men, no alcohol, no smoking and lots of dancing!”
