The loss of her beloved Yorkshire terrier-cross Bella has left her without a canine companion.
She cannot afford to buy a pedigree puppy and faces the dismal prospect of living alone without a four-legged friend.

"She understood everything I said to her. I could not have wished for a better dog. I am lost without her.
"She slept with me and used to wake me up in the mornings.
"Having another dog would get me to go out. I can't stand living on my own. I am on my own because my children have grown up."
Lucy '“ who overcame meningitis at the age of four and a stroke in her adult life '“ was deeply upset at Bella's death.

Lucy and her friend, Anne Assheton, of Arun Road, were walking their dogs on land near Hastings Close when the incident happened.
The details of what occurred are disputed by the respective dog owners but Bella suffered a hole in her trachea and a broken neck among other injuries.
Bella was taken to a vet, but the surgeon told Lucy and Anne to prepare for the worst.

The attack has left Lucy with a 400 bill which she is struggling to pay. The debt hanging over her means she has no money left to be able to pay for a new dog.
"I would like a small dog similar to Bella," she explained. "It would be nice to have a puppy so I can train her up."
Anyone able to help should contact Anne Assheton on 01243 869819.
