Labour leader in Brighton and Hove to step down
Cllr Daniel Yates, who has served as leader of Brighton and Hove City Council since May last year, made the announcement on Twitter this morning (May 6).
After the city went to the polls on Thursday (May 2), Labour won 20 of 54 seats, with the Greens taking 19, the Conservatives 14, and one independent being elected.

Hide AdThis weekend, Cllr Yates called for a 'progressive alliance' in the city between Labour and the Greens following the election.
"I will continue as council leader until 22/5 and will continue as ward councillor for the next four years. I am committed to supporting the next leader however they wish. Labour's values and principles are in my blood and our manifesto for the city will guide me
"I hope the city can move forward collaboratively together and that politics can contribute to that rather than inhibiting it."
