Robertsbridge sends Michael Gove up in smoke
The Society lived up to its reputation for creating stunning effigies when it created a caricature of the Government minister who has been at the centre of controversial school reform proposals.
There was a huge cheer and chants of ‘burn Gove’ as the effigy was blown apart by fireworks on the recreation ground. It was a spectacular end to a classic bonfire event in the village which saw societies from Rye, Battle, Hastings and Lewes taking part in a torch-lit procession.

Hide AdThe society had a perfect clear night for the event, which saw several thousand people lining the streets.
The local bonfire season comes to a close on Saturday when newly-formed Northiam Bonfire Society holds its event.
