Sam's day out
Eight year old Sam was invited to visit one of the highways depots, after he sent a design to East Sussex County Council for a bridge, which he thought would be a good idea to build over roads, when roadworks are taking place.
Sam was shown the two types of gritters, sat in one of the diggers and highways engineers talked to him about his design. He then donned a hard hat and a high visibility vest and was taken out to see a road that was being reconstructed.

Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Member for Transport and Environment, said: "It was great to spend the morning with Sam, who's obviously really interested in the work that our highways team do. I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot too!"
