Sue Eason, Steven's instructor at Bognor Regis Swim School, said: "Steven can now manage to touch the bottom of the shallow end of the pool and swim on his front and back with a smile on his face. He is a pleasure to teach."
Duncan said: "It is important that children are taught the necessary skills to be safe in water as young as possible because drowning is still a major cause of accidental death in this country. I hope Steven continues with his swimming."
The Southern Water learn to swim scheme is taught at more than 70 pools and clubs in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
