The lifesaving service is due to return on Saturday (May 30), following a rise in the number of visitors to our shores in the hot weather.
Eastbourne council tourism boss Margaret Bannister said, “Given the fantastic weather Eastbourne has seen in recent days, increasing numbers of people are heading out for a swim in the sea as part of their daily exercise.

“Whilst the lifeguard service is resuming, we would like to encourage the public to remain vigilant of the tides and conditions whenever they are entering or swimming in the sea.”
To ensure lifeguard duties are able to be carried out in a manner that is safe for staff and the public, the council says adaptations to operations have been made following advice from Public Health England, UK Search and Rescue, and Resuscitation Council (UK).
All Eastbourne Lifeguard staff will receive additional training with adaptations to operations including the set-up, pack-down and general day-to-day running of the service as well as emergency responses and providing the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
