Video: Festive recycling advice
The fun film features a choir singing their version on the 12 days of Christmas, with lines such as “On the first day of Christmas West Sussex recycled for me … an Alan Partridge DVD.”
Although entertaining, the purpose of the film is to encourage people to use their Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRSs) by having a good clear-out of unwanted items during the 12 days leading up to the start of festivities.

TVs, wood, metal, electrical items, old saucepans and even used cooking oil can all be deposited for onward recycling as well as many other items not accepted as part of residents’
kerbside collection services.
Lionel Barnard, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents Services, pointed out that this Christmas is likely to lead to a lot of items from old computer games to kettles being thrown out that can also be recycled.
“It’s surprising the amount of material that can be recycled,” he said.

All sites are closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Jen Hake, Viridor Education and Customer Relations Manager, said: “We really want to make recycling as easy as possible for people each and every day and especially at Christmas.”
She goes on to say that this year the site staff have truly embraced the Christmas spirit by making this short, fun film about recycling over the festive season to highlight some of the more unusual everyday household items their sites will accept for recycling.
So it’s out the old by Christmas and in with new for New Years!
