VIDEO: Petition launched to tackle '˜dangerous' village roundabout
The mini roundabout on the A283 in Storrington, at the junction of School Hill and Manley’s Hill, has been at the centre of several crashes over the past couple of years.
The problems have mainly been caused by large lorries trying to navigate the tight corner as they use the village to avoid the A27.

Hide AdStorrington Business Breakfast Club, made up of business owners in the area, said it had had enough of traffic being held up and vehicles crashing into shops in the area.
A spokesman for the club said: “Several businesses have gone out of business thanks to large vehicles hitting the shops there.
“It is very dangerous. Someone is going to get killed and we do not want to wait until that happens.”
The spokesman added it was not just turning which was the issue and pedestrians were also at risk of large vehicles when walking down the narrow pathways either side of each road.

Hide AdIn response the club has set up a petition asking West Sussex County Council to restrict the size of vehicles allowed to travel through the area.
“The main solution is to fix the A27 to stop these vehicles coming through Storrington,” the spokesman continued.
“But if you could get the council to put up a sign saying ‘no right turning for lorries’ that might help.
“It is only a small thing and its not an expensive thing.”
In February 2015 there was traffic chaos when a large lorry tried to negotiate the roundabout and hit a shop, damaging the roof of the property.

Hide AdIn November last year county councillor Philip Circus described the roundabout as the ‘most dangerous ever’ after two cars collided at the junction.
The conservative member has been campaigning to improve the safety at the turning for many years and has spoken to businesses in the area to discourage them from sending large vehicles into the village.
The club said it was running the petition to help with his bid.
So far it has gained more than 100 signatures and is aiming to beat the 1,000 mark.
