PUB SHUT: Tomorrow, Saturday, the Star will be closed from 2.30pm for the rest of the day for a private function. Apologies to all customers.
WALKING FESTIVAL: Wealden District Council and the Borough of Eastbourne are again organising a Walking Festival between Saturday September 24 and Sunday October 2. Over 60 walks are on offer, exploring the Wealden landscape, parts of Eastbourne, the South Downs and the surrounding area. It’s a great opportunity to visit historic villages and gardens, discover networks of footpaths and find hidden treasures within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Hide AdCheck the website www.sussexwalkingfestival.org.uk from which you can book your walk or ring 01892 602757 from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. There are printed leaflets available at the Star or the village coffee shop. Most walks are free.
STEAM ENGINE RALLY: A date for your diary on the last Sunday of September when the annual Steam Engine rally takes place outside the Star. It’s a feast of fun and steam and lovingly cared-for old vehicles. Not to be missed and usually a fine day as the autumn colours paint the countryside brilliant oranges and bronzes.
BLACKBERRYING: The blackberries are fine and plumptious this autumn, thanks to the wet June and the sunny August. Our new motorcyclist Karen said ruefully this week that she took an unusually close interest in the crop when she rounded a corner rather faster than she had intended and slid gracefully into the hedge. No dramatic damage, fortunately, either to Karen or her mount but husband Phil hasn’t yet let her forget it and keeps muttering encouragingly about blackberry and apple pies being one of his favourites.
SERVICES: This Sunday both morning services will be held at All Saints’ with Holy Communion at 8am and Parish Eucharist with a baptism at 10am.
