Women keep up toilet protest
The Labour Party's Women Section was protesting about the number of public toilets being shut down in the town.
Margaret Attree, Anita Klugman and Joan Winterbottom were among the Devonshire Square demonstrators.

Hide AdJoan Winterbottom said: "Once they close these things you find they never re-open them. Toilets are something none of us can do without, although I might add these ones in Devonshire Square are sometimes in a right state."
Local resident Valerie Rawlings said: "I have a medical problem that requires me to need public toilets available.
"I would rather pay ten pence which most people could afford than have no toilets at all."
The demonstration sparked a lot of signatures on a petition.

Hide AdIf cost is a problem then paid facilities seem to be a preferred option.
Mrs E Pogmore a local resident commented on having attendants in the public toilets to try and overcome the vandalism.
A lot of comments were made on the distance between public toilets, which can become quite a problem for the elderly or disabled.
Another protester said: "I feel these decisions are all done behind closed doors and the public having very little say.
