The U’s were handed a home tie against Merthyr Town in the draw for second round qualifying, which was made this lunchtime (Monday). The match will be played on Saturday November 14.
Merthyr Town were founded in 1909 and played in the Football League during the 1920s, but the club folded in 1934 and was replaced by newly-formed Merthyr Tydfil FC in 1945. In 2010, the club reformed again after Merthyr Tydfil were liquidated.

Hide AdTown are 11th in the Southern Football League Premier Division with 22 points from 17 games. United have already played one club from that division this season, losing 2-0 at home to leaders Poole Town in the FA Cup.
The U’s - who play their football one level further down the non-league pyramid in Ryman League Division One South - have come through two rounds to reach this stage.
A 3-2 win away to Wroxham in the preliminary round was followed by a 2-1 success in first round qualifying at Chipstead on Saturday when Jerome Smith and Bright Temba scored the goals.
That result means United have lost only one of nine matches in the various knockout competitions so far this season and they’ve won their last six fixtures in all competitions (including penalty shoot-outs).
