Alex Addai struck early on to fire Merstham ahead but a deflected Will Hendon strike and skipper Wills’ sensational volley helped Worthing seal a 2-1 win.
Victory saw Worthing move up a place to 13th in the table and nine points clear of fourth-from-bottom Kingstonian with five games to go.

Hide AdWorthing joint manager Gary Elphick was relieved to see the winless run come to an end and said: “We had great balance in the team and the boys did a brilliant job coming from a goal behind.
“We’ve got second-from-bottom AFC Sudbury on Saturday and it’s a chance to put smiles back on fans’ faces at home after a difficult run.”
Addai blasted an effort past Kieran Thorp after eight minutes to put the home side ahead. Hendon’s deflected strike on the half-hour made it 1-1, then Wills’ stunning 25-yard volley on the hour won it for Worthing.
WORTHING: Thorp; Hendon, Cadman, Cook, Rents; Sparks, O’Neill, Wills, Clark; Herbert, Summers. Subs: Edwards (Herbert, 75), Pope (Summers, 82), Williamson, Watson, Belward.
