Lewes win but game on the line at half time

Hide AdThe most dramatic moments took place at half time with referee Eric Mackrell coming into the boardroom to ask for an appeal to be made over the public address system for a replacement to one of his assistants who had suffered a knee injury in the first half.
A replacement wasn't found amongst the 586 paying spectators but, the game was able to continue thanks to a bizarre twist of fate.
Not one but TWO referee's assessors had been sent to cover the game by mistake and one of these two offered to run the line for the second half, with the other continuing to assess referee Mackrell.
