Heathfield get back on the rugby pitch - but on a poignant day
The pitch that until now has been called the Cypress Field (named after a former sponsor) is now called the Wilson-Rhodes Field after Paul Wilson and Dave Rhodes, who have passed away in recent years.
Paul Wilson was a long time president of the club and Dave Rhodes the chairman for almost as long.

More than 150 club members and players were present (suitably distanced!) as current Heathfield president Robin Gale spoke briefly and movingly about Paul and David’s contributions.
Paul’s son Simon emphasised the family and community character of the club.
Their widows, Jean Wilson and Sue Rhodes, were both present with their families and jointly unveiled the sign at the entrance to the pitch.

Sadly Mark Hassall, another long-time member and vice president of the club, recently passed away at the age of 56. All present took part in a minute’s applause for Mark before the matches started.
Mark played for the club from its earliest days and remained a strong supporter thereafter.
The games were followed by a barbcue and awards presentation for last season.

Heathfield are pushing ahead with the redevelopment of the training area and plans for the extension of the clubhouse are being prepared, much needed with the growth in playing numbers.
