MP highlights commuter parking
POLEGATE MP Norman Baker has written to East Sussex County Council asking for restrictions on parking in the residential streets around Polegate railway station.
The situation involving commuters parking their cars near Polegate station has rumbled on for several years. This is much to the dissatisfaction and annoyance of residents, particularly those who are disabled and need to have access to the road, many of whom find it difficult to park near their homes because of absent commuters, said Mr Baker.
He added, "I am writing to the director of transport and environment at the county council in order to see if something can be done about the parking situation around Polegate station.
"I have made it clear that my preferred method of dealing with the problem would be to place a one-hour parking restriction, say between 10am and 11am, within the residential streets around the station in order to prevent commuters from parking there all day.
"Indeed, this is a practice that is commonplace elsewhere in the country.
"I will continue to work for those who live near Polegate station, and keep up the pressure on the county council until action is taken."
