THIS is Sports Focus Week at Glyne Gap special needs school for children with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties.
The school called it Glyne Gap Get Active Week.
During the week pupils have been asked to take part in as much physical healthy activity that is appropriate for them as they can.
For each activity they undertake they gain points. Tomorrow, at the e
nd of the week, ALL pupils' achievements will be celebrated in an assembly.
Parents are also keeping the school informed of healthy food/activities at home as this also earns points.
Activities arranged at school included:
*Football Focus Day - Each class elected to be a team from Euro 2008 and dressed in their team's colours. Football/Ball skill activities took place around the school.
*Judo Sessions
*Smoothie Bike Day - pupils ride a bike which changes fruit into a smoothie.
*Boccia Tournament for Keystages 3 and 4
*New Age curling Tournament for Keystages 3 and 4
This is in addition to class exercise programmes, using walkers, standing in walking frames, eating more fruit, having healthy choices in lunchboxes, going for a walk, trampolining, swimming, PE, using postural management equipment, doing the hokey-cokey, dance, skittles, disco, ball games, soft play.The idea has been to provide activities for all pupils.
Pupils have been asked to come in comfortable clothes such as tracksuits all week except for today which is Ascot Day and everyone will be dressed in their best finery for a day at the races.
At tomorrow's Medals Assembly as a special treat the pupils will be meeting a real Olympic Gold Medallist – James Everest, who won a Judo Gold at the Special Olympics 2006 in Shanghai.
