LAST year it poured with rain but this year the weather was kind and the sun shone down, providing the crowds who flocked to the Summer Fair at St Richard's Catholic College the opportunity to enjoy, not only the variety of indoor, but also the many outdoor attractions which were available.
Always a popular event, rain or shine, the fair gave people the chance to try their hand at one of the many games which included football, golf and a balloon game or to buy items from the many stalls selling plants, bric a brac, books, toys, sweets, fair trade, gifts, and be refreshed at the Pimms bar or with teas, coffees, ice creams, cakes and a mouthwatering barbecue.

There was the choice of purchasing tickets for a selection of amazingly well-stocked tombolas, and various raffles, including a James Bond event raffle which had two magnificent prizes of a diamond and a bracelet.

Entertainment was provided throughout with live music from year 10.

PTFA Chairman Pompea Whitaker expressed her thanks to everyone who helped put the event together and made it such a resounding success.

She said: "My thanks go to everyone who has worked so extremely hard to put together a variety of attractions; and to parents and the local businesses who have so kindly donated so much to our raffles and tombolas."

Pompea said the funds raised will be used to enable the PTFA to continue updating the school's sound system and they also have an extensive range of ideas and plans in the pipeline.

She said: "The PTFA are also considering a video conference pack for the recently refurbished library, a software programme for the Humanities department, some more exercise and sports equipment and for the future a new cricket pitch."

Approximately £3,500 was raised and PTFA treasurer Paul Hammond said he was delighted with the result adding: "This is a marvellous contribution from the community of the college."
